Coaches who pick up and sign for the racing chips are responsible for their safe return. If a chip is lost or damaged, the coach or team representative who signed out the chips will be charged $20 per timing chip.

Individuals without a team affiliation will sign out chips singularly. There will be a $20 fee assessed for unreturned or damaged chips.

Eligibility for Participation

Any individual (5th thru 8th grade) who wishes to run in the championship division MUST qualify in one of the qualifying meets throught out Florida No qualification is required for the Open middle school race or the elementary races. Top 10% of finishers (Basic Qualifier) or Top 15 individuals or Top 10% individuals in a Super Qualifier will be considered qualified regardless of team affiliation. Initial results will be used.

Both championship divisions will be scored for teams. 7 runners max in the Championship Division. Teams MUST be composed of kids who attend the same middle school regardless of whether the team competes under the name of the school or some other nomenclature. Teams will qualify based on their place in one of the qualifying meets set forth below.
5th graders may compete on a team or as an individual
Qualifiying Meets
List of Qualifying Meets

Basic Qualifiers:

Basic Qualifiers will be posted on the FLYRA website and Generally any Conference, League, City or County Championship will serve as a qualifier– provided the results are posted on Additionally, Invitational Meets with 8 or more teams will be considered if a request is made to FLYRA prior to the meet and the results are posted on Some smaller meets may be considered in geographic areas where there are otherwise no other qualifying opportunities. Qualifying from a Basic Qualifying Meet will follow the formula: Top 25% of Finishing Teams, and Top 10% of Finishing Individuals qualify. Teams numbers will be rounded up.

Club Team: will be defined as a team of runners who go to different schools but have come together to form a team.

Scholastic Team: all the runners on the team go to the same school. (Private, public, charter, or homeschool) They can run under their school name or they can use another name. We allow a name change because some county school districts do not allow teams to use the school name outside of the county.
Determining which teams qualified for the ms championship meet: Club teams will be taken out of the results and team results recalculated with only scholastic teams. Top 25% of school based teams
Individual Qualifiers: Top 10% of finishers will be considered qualified regardless of team affiliation. Initial results will be used.
Top 15 individual finishers or Top 10%, whichever is greater.
Top 5 School based teams. Club teams and out of state teams will not be counted when reviewing Super qualifier results.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What if a club team (members are not from the same school)wins one of the TOP 5 qualifying spots in a Super qualifier? Top 5 school based teams will qualify for the MS State Championships.

Can a 5th grader compete in the Championship Division?Yes, they may as long as they have qualified thru a qualifing meet. They may qualify as part of a team or as an individual.
What if a middle school runner is in Top 7 on the high school varsity team and can’t participate in the middle school division of a Super Qualifier or Basic Qualifier. Can his participation in the Varsity High school race count?
No it does not. 1) It is our position that athletes must qualify via the qualifying meets, and 2) because our State Meet conflicts with High School Districts, this is an either/or proposition for some kids.[/i].
How many kids can a qualilfied school enter into the Championship Division? 5 min. to score, 7 max.
How many kids can I put in the OPEN Division? The Open Division is unlimited.
